Job Summary

Job Title: Safety and Security Professional

Job Description:

The Safety and Security Professional is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and property within the shelter environment. This role reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager of the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily inspections of client rooms to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Escort clients to appointments as needed, providing excellent customer service and maintaining good rapport.
  • Monitor client behavior and encourage compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Control access at the main entrance by screening clients and visitors, utilizing magnetometer/x-ray machines to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site.
  • Perform crisis intervention to de-escalate potential crisis situations and document all such incidents.
  • Make hourly rounds throughout the facility, including hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.
  • Respond to incidents and assist with client intakes.
  • Perform daily pack-ups and logging of client property belonging to AWOL clients.
  • Store and remove client property once the mandated storage time has expired.
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
  • Complete logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Make calls to emergency services as directed.
  • Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations desk, monitoring video surveillance cameras and fire prevention/detection alarm notification systems.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED and prior security experience required.
  • NYS Security Guard License and current 8 Hour Annual Certificate required.
  • Fire Guard License for Shelters (F-02) required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary.
  • Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
