Position Overview

LSS Alternatives to Detention is seeking dedicated individuals for the roles of Residential Counselors and Residential Workers who are committed to supporting youth involved in the justice system. Ideal candidates will possess patience, empathy, and thrive in a dynamic environment where each day presents new challenges.

SHIFT OPTIONS:

  • Full-time positions available during daytime hours from 7am to 3pm or as required
  • Full-time roles for afternoons, evenings, and weekends
  • Full-time overnight shifts and weekend availability

SALARY: Starting hourly wage ranges from $16 to $18, contingent upon educational background and relevant experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The selected candidates will oversee and assist youth in shelter care and reception settings. Responsibilities include providing direct care, establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries, and teaching essential coping and problem-solving skills. Accurate and timely documentation and reporting of client needs and services will also be required.

QUALIFICATIONS: For the Residential Counselor role, a Bachelor's degree in a behavioral or social science field is preferred, or a combination of post-secondary education and at least one year of experience working with children. For the Residential Worker position, a high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with experience working with youth.

Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and complete orientation training in accordance with agency standards. Successful completion of all agency background checks is mandatory, including checks for any criminal history that may pose a risk to children. A valid driver's license and the ability to achieve approved driver status are also required.
