Job Title: Academic Counselor

Holyoke Community College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Counselor to join our team. As an Academic Counselor, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of our students, particularly those from underrepresented groups.

Job Summary:

The Academic Counselor will provide academic, career, and retention counseling to a cohort of students in the TRIO Student Support Services program. This includes developing and implementing individual student academic plans, advising, and monitoring students' progress. The successful candidate will also provide workshops on financial aid, financial literacy, transfer to a four-year college, self-management, and study strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic, career, and retention counseling to students in the TRIO program
  • Develop and implement individual student academic plans, advising, and monitoring students' progress
  • Provide workshops on financial aid, financial literacy, transfer to a four-year college, self-management, and study strategies
  • Work collaboratively with the Office for Students with Disabilities and Deaf Services to review documentation and develop accommodation plans for students with disabilities
  • Assist with the projects and activities of the TRIO Ambassadors program
  • Consult with faculty, Financial Aid Office, and other campus departments on behalf of program students
  • Plan and facilitate program events, workshops, and activities for program participants
  • Establish and maintain confidential records and contribute to program record keeping
  • Participate in all other operational aspects of the project, including program planning and development
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Education, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, or closely related field
  • Three years' experience in TRIO or similar programs that serve underrepresented groups, preferably low-income, disabled, and/or first-generation students
  • Demonstrated experience working with college students
  • Experience with academic planning and advising
  • Experience with peer mentoring and tutoring programs
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
  • Strong computer skills
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience with Student Administration software
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Presentation skills
  • Experience with group design and facilitation
  • Background in assessment, career development, and financial literacy counseling
Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is $60,212.80 per year, with full state benefits. This is a 11-month position, with 37.5 hours per week.
