Job Title: Automotive Collision Instructor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Automotive Collision Instructor to join our team at Holyoke Public Schools. As an Automotive Collision Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching students the skills and knowledge needed to become proficient in automotive collision repair and refinishing.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach students the Massachusetts Automotive Collision Frameworks and modify them to different learning styles and student backgrounds
  • Develop lesson plans and organize class time to ensure preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities are completed within the allotted time
  • Maintain records of student progress, including grades, attendance, and discipline
  • Demonstrate occupational materials, equipment, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aides
  • Guide students in the selection and performance of appropriate activities and the attainment of required competencies
  • Provide individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed
  • Mentor students to recognize the importance of postsecondary education and training and to impart the importance of a strong work ethic
  • Work with the CTE Director and Co-op coordinator to ensure students have work-based experiences, including co-ops
  • Instruct students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of instruments and equipment
  • Control the storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse
  • Establish and maintain standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom
  • Communicate with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual student progress
  • Evaluate each student's performance, knowledge, and skills in the course being taught, as well as prepare progress reports

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) certification in at least 2 areas of automotive collision repair and refinishing (one of the areas must be painting/refinishing)
  • Five years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to automotive collision repair and refinishing
  • At least one year of full-time teaching experience preferred
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
  • Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
  • Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply

Required License(s):

  • Massachusetts Certification in Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing, 9-14
