Job Title: Physical Therapist - Specialist

The Physical Therapist - Specialist plays a crucial role in establishing the Physical Therapy Specialty service line. This includes developing clinical protocols, coordinating workflows, and managing patient flow in collaboration with referring providers. The specialist is tasked with planning and implementing treatment programs, monitoring patient progress towards rehabilitation goals, and maintaining direct communication with referring physicians to ensure accountability for service line performance and enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver immediate assistance to physicians and patients within a clinical setting focused on the area of expertise. Manage patient care beyond the clinical environment, tailored to individual rehabilitation requirements. Conduct comprehensive evaluations, including assessments of range of motion, circumferential measurements, neurological evaluations, and functional activity analysis. Analyze evaluation outcomes to ascertain the level of impairment, support differential diagnoses, and aid in formulating and adjusting treatment specifics. Design treatment plans based on patient complaints, physician referrals, medical history reviews, and evaluation findings. Establish clear treatment objectives aimed at alleviating pain, restoring functionality, and preventing disabilities. Identify contraindications to treatment and suggest necessary modifications. Administer therapeutic modalities such as electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, traction, and massage techniques in accordance with established protocols and patient tolerance. Implement therapeutic exercises to enhance posture, strength, range of motion, coordination, and endurance. Facilitate the fitting and application of prescribed orthotic devices. Educate patients on the use of assistive devices and physical therapy techniques for home continuation. Monitor treatment effects and adjust techniques to maximize patient benefits. Document initial evaluations and progress reports in the patient's medical records. Communicate patient progress or changes in condition to referring physicians as necessary. Ensure accurate completion of charge tickets for treatments provided. Assist in timely scheduling for patient appointments. Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants and other support staff. Uphold a professional demeanor at all times. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Strive to ensure patient comfort and privacy. Communicate effectively and courteously in person or via telephone. Utilize supplies efficiently and responsibly. Support equipment maintenance and report any issues to the Director. Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures. Complete incident reports for any events that may pose liability risks. Inform the Director of any situations requiring attention beyond standard responsibilities. Adhere to all relevant incident reporting policies and procedures. Comply with all training and regulatory requirements as mandated. Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold the organization's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.

Licenses/Certificates

Licensed by the State of Illinois (PT). CPR certification in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines required within the initial employment period.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association is preferred but not mandatory. Specialized training in Kinesiotaping, LSVT BIG for Parkinson's treatment, Graston Technique, Sports Medicine, McKenzie Method for back pain, Lymphedema Management, Women's/Men's Health, Vestibular Rehabilitation, Dry Needling, ASTYM, ISTYM, CSCS, and BFR (Blood Flow Restriction) is advantageous.

Working Environment

Involves extensive walking, standing, kneeling, and the potential for heavy lifting.
