Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Patient Service Representative to join our Admissions Department at UT Health East Texas. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for handling all admitting functions, including gathering and entering patient demographic and billing information with a high degree of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Handles all admitting functions, including gathering and entering patient demographic and billing information
  • Creates a positive first impression and high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Registers patients in a timely and professional manner, within 5-7 minutes
  • Obtains signatures required for general consent for treatment, release of information, and assignment of insurance benefits
  • Actively displays compassion, understanding, and empathy to everyone they encounter
  • Provides appropriate information to patients, families, and visitors, and interdepartmental team members
  • Claims ownership of admitting process through regular communication with other team members
  • Contributes to realization of overall department goals and standards
  • Collects co-pays, deductibles, down payments, and cash discount payments as required
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Additional two years of higher education preferred
  • Hospital clerical or physician office experience preferred
  • Outstanding customer service skills and desire to actively display those skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of personal computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Windows operating system
  • Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM corrected of errors
  • Ability to operate office equipment effectively
  • Organizational skills required with the ability to multitask and handle heavy volume of patient flow
Working Conditions:

This position requires shifts with rotating weekends and the ability to sit for long periods of time while completing work on a computer. The ability to lift 10 or more pounds and move throughout the workplace is also required.
