Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Chemical Safety and Regulated Waste Management teams, ensuring effective assignment and review of tasks.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures that promote safety and compliance with chemical regulations.
  • Act as the designated Chemical Hygiene Officer, providing expert guidance on chemical safety matters.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs for faculty, staff, and students to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies concerning chemical safety and waste management.
  • Conduct investigations into chemical-related incidents and collaborate on corrective action reports.
  • Communicate policy updates and solicit feedback from the University community to enhance safety practices.
  • Establish strategic goals for chemical health and safety in alignment with division leadership.
  • Collaborate with various departments to address safety concerns in laboratory settings.
  • Oversee the management of laboratory chemical inventories and regulated waste disposal.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety, chemistry, or a related field, along with seven years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Master's degree with five years of experience is acceptable. Candidates must demonstrate extensive knowledge of federal and state regulations related to chemical safety and waste management.

Preferred Skills

Experience in a higher education setting and current safety certifications are advantageous. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential for fostering a collaborative environment.
