Position Overview:

Advocate Aurora Health is currently in search of a Surgical Technologist Level I to join our dedicated team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient environment that promotes optimal patient care. Employ aseptic surgical techniques in preparing materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Assist in various surgical procedures while maintaining a fundamental understanding of diverse operations.
  • Oversee the environmental sanitation, safety, and effectiveness of the operating room. This includes setting up the room for each case, moving necessary equipment, and ensuring all tools are returned post-procedure.
  • Act as a Second Assistant when required.
  • Alert relevant personnel regarding any equipment or supply issues.
  • Facilitate the transportation of patients and/or necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain a specialty cart or item, ensuring its completeness and availability, including checking the operational status of equipment and ensuring sterility.
  • Perform various patient positioning and transportation tasks, which may involve lifting and pushing/pulling, while adhering to proper techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills essential for providing age-appropriate care to patients, including the ability to assess and interpret data relevant to each patient's specific needs.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within six months unless exempted by the department leader.

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited program in Surgical Technology is mandatory.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with aseptic surgical techniques and various operating room equipment.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic proficiency in computer usage.
  • Commitment to maintaining annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to thrive in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist and up to 20 lbs. overhead.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance and push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Required to perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must have functional sight and hearing, and be able to wear protective gear as necessary.
