Position Overview:

Advocate Aurora Health is currently in search of a Surgical Technologist Level I to join our dedicated team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient environment that promotes optimal patient care. Utilize aseptic surgical techniques to prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures, including gowning, gloving, and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Assist in various surgical procedures while maintaining a foundational understanding of diverse surgical techniques.
  • Oversee the disinfection, safety, and efficiency of the operating room by preparing the space for each case, which includes moving and operating necessary equipment.
  • Act as a Second Assistant when required, supporting the surgical team as needed.
  • Report any equipment or supply issues to the appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Transport patients and manage equipment and supplies efficiently.
  • Maintain specialty carts or items, ensuring they are complete and in working order, including checking equipment sterility and arranging repairs for damaged items.
  • Perform patient positioning and transportation tasks, adhering to proper lifting techniques.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide age-appropriate care by understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, assessing patient data, and delivering care in accordance with departmental policies.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within six months unless otherwise determined by the department leader.

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited or approved Surgical Technology program is mandatory.

Experience Requirements:

  • No prior experience is necessary for this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with aseptic surgical techniques and various operating room equipment.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic proficiency in computer usage.
  • Commitment to maintaining annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  • Physical capabilities include lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lifting 20 lbs. overhead, and carrying up to 40 lbs. over a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with a force of 30 lbs. and perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Exposure to various hazards including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biological substances is expected.
  • Must possess functional sight and hearing, and be able to wear necessary protective gear.
