Position Overview:
The Senior Medical Imaging Specialist within the Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional care to patients requiring various procedural services. Under the guidance of the Medical Director, the manager, and the physicians, this position emphasizes collaboration with all team members to produce diagnostic images, actively participate as a procedural assistant, and foster relationships with both staff and patients to ensure a safe and positive experience.
Patient Care Responsibilities:
+ Educate patients regarding the purpose and nature of tests or procedures being conducted.
+ Exhibit the necessary knowledge and skills to provide patient care tailored to the age and specific characteristics of each patient.
+ Review patient medical histories (including medications, allergies, lab values, etc.) prior to initiating procedures.
+ Confirm that informed consent has been secured before proceeding with any procedure.
+ Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and deliver high-quality care.
+ Maintain on-call responsibilities with a 30-minute response time for three services (Neuro, CCP, and Vascular surgery).
Procedural Assistance:
+ Ensure that an order for a procedure has been properly obtained.
+ Prepare and uphold a sterile tray and environment suitable for performing procedures.
+ Administer contrast media while adhering to technical and positioning protocols.
+ Maintain comprehensive knowledge of radiation protection and safety (ALARA guidelines).
+ Conduct sterile preparations of patients for various procedures and assist physicians in complex procedures within the assigned area (sterile scrub).
+ Demonstrate proficiency in operating all IR and OR hybrid procedure rooms.
Equipment Maintenance:
+ Ensure equipment is maintained for safe and accurate technical function and patient comfort (including cleaning).
+ Report equipment issues to the appropriate personnel for service.
+ Accurately enter patient data, charges, and supplies into the system.
+ Assist in maintaining adequate supply levels in procedure rooms and rotate stock for daily use.
+ Actively support the organization in upholding proper accreditations.
General Responsibilities:
+ Adhere to Hospital/department policies and New York state and accrediting agency standards.
+ Utilize experience and judgment to plan and achieve goals.
+ Serve as a mentor and preceptor to new staff and students.
+ Strive for professional growth and development, contributing to a progressive Imaging department with a positive atmosphere.
+ Participate in research procedures/protocols.
+ Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
