Your Role

The Utilities Electrical Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the electrical dependability and technical integrity of our Utilities Production Areas.

  • Collaborate with the Production Team to guarantee safe and dependable unit operations. Serve as the primary technical resource for Electrical Inspectors, aiding in troubleshooting and solution development. Coordinate efforts with various technical teams, project groups, and Operations.
  • Assess design packages and schematics to confirm adherence to applicable standards and accuracy of specifications.
  • Engage in design and construction activities, including HAZOPs, SHAs, and PSSRs.
  • Propose equipment upgrades or replacements and initiate Project Initiation Forms (PIFs) to enhance the reliability of electrical systems.
  • Conduct evaluations to support risk-based inspection initiatives.
  • Ensure the electrical system model is updated to reflect new supply and equipment connections.
  • Participate in Causal Investigations to analyze equipment failures utilizing AMS Work Processes.
  • Contribute to the development of a 5-year capital plan focused on prioritized asset integrity risks.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate site electrical one-line diagrams in ASSAI.
  • Ensure that electrical Non-Routine Maintenance (NRM) programs are integrated into Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Managed Equipment Care (MEC) plans.
  • Mentor entry-level Electrical Engineers, fostering a challenging and educational technical environment.
  • Review Management of Change (MOC) documentation for junior Electrical Engineers as necessary.
  • Stay proficient in applying new technologies related to Electrical condition monitoring and performance assessment (e.g., Industrial Power Distribution, Partial Discharge testing, System condition monitoring, Infrared Temperature surveys, Protective Relaying, etc.). Analyze generated data to determine appropriate corrective actions and share insights with fellow Electrical Engineers for training purposes.
  • Provide technical support for the design, selection, modification, and re-rating of electrical equipment in line with industry and company standards.
  • Ensure technical assurance for temporary repairs.
  • Offer technical assistance for turnaround planning and execution concerning electrical equipment.
  • Support the MOC process to ensure all changes account for electrical technical specifications.
  • Manage electrical reliability challenges through the Fit4 work process.
  • Aid in the execution of turnarounds and pit stops.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding electrical reliability threats and mitigation strategies through effective standard designs.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews for all electrical switching procedures related to Sub Turnarounds (T/As).
  • Deliver standardized base substation Turnaround (T/A) scopes.
  • Provide essential electrical expertise to fellow Electrical Engineers to ensure the safety and reliability of the site’s electrical system.
  • Oversee the quality of low-complexity capital project scope identification and assessment.
  • Act as the customer/approver for all small capital electrical projects.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Electrical Engineering principles and applications, including:
    • Electrical Safety
    • Hazardous Areas and Ex Equipment
    • Electrical System Design/Modification
    • Electrical System Studies
    • Electrical System Protection and Control
    • Electrical Standards
    • Electrical Equipment Selection
    • Electrical Drawings

  • Skilled in MEC Work Processes.
  • Ability to identify long-term electrical reliability challenges.

  • Cultivate open and honest relationships with craft, salary, and contractor workforce.

Qualifications

  • Must possess legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
  • A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is essential.
  • Familiarity with medium voltage systems is advantageous.
