Job Overview

This pivotal role involves the operation of saddle stitcher machinery, contributing significantly to our operational success. As a leader within the finishing team, you will guide and oversee the workflow to meet our productivity, quality, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively and safely operate saddle stitcher machines to produce high-quality products.
  • Interpret job tickets and specifications accurately prior to commencing tasks.
  • Prepare and manage all functions of the saddle stitcher, including pockets, stitcher heads, in-feed, trimmer, mail table, and mail head.
  • Provide coverage for other operators as necessary.
  • Promote and enforce safety protocols while identifying opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Facilitate ongoing training and development for fellow finishing personnel, assisting supervisors in refining procedures and processes.
  • Engage in continuous learning of new techniques to enhance production efficiency.
  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on assigned machinery.
  • Submit maintenance requests as required.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant OSHA and EPA regulations, as well as company safety policies.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • 1 to 2 years of prior experience in a bindery environment.
  • Experience with Mueller Martini, Heidelberg, or Osako saddle stitchers is preferred.
  • Familiarity with various bindery equipment such as binders, cutters, folders, inserters, and poly wrappers is advantageous.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling, and bending.
  • Capability to lift 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Requires manual dexterity and coordination for fine motor tasks.
  • Near visual acuity is necessary for detailed work.
  • Comfortable working around and operating departmental machinery.
