About the Role

At Blue Origin, we're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanisms Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage Mechanisms specifications and requirements
  • Develop and manage Mechanisms interfaces, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and models
  • Decompose requirements from system and subsystem-levels into lower-level requirements
  • Mentor early-career Mechanisms Systems Engineers on the Lunar Program
  • Standardize Mechanisms Systems Engineering approaches
  • Own the verification and validation of Mechanisms requirements
  • Perform traceability analysis of requirements to higher levels, and to verification activities
  • Lead trade studies across the Mechanisms IPT and with other IPTs
  • Serve as the Mechanisms point-of-contact for other IPTs
Requirements
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 8 years of relevant Mechanisms Engineering or Systems Engineering experience on space missions
  • Strong understanding and application of Systems Engineering fundamentals in a few areas such as Requirements management, Verification, and/or Integration
  • Familiarity with common spacecraft mechanisms hardware
  • Strong understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Desired Qualifications
  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 12 years of relevant Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering experience on space missions
  • Experience with Landing Gear and Docking Systems
  • Familiar with NASA Systems Engineering process and standards
  • Experience solving a variety of mechanical problems demonstrating breadth in application
  • Expert in requirements management software such as Jama
