Job Summary

The Recreation Specialist develops and implements programs that promote physical, mental, and social well-being for residents. This role involves creating and leading activities that foster social integration, cognitive development, and stress relief.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and execute leisure time activities that promote social cohesion and community engagement.
  2. Develop and implement programs that strengthen cognitive abilities, such as concentration and reasoning.
  3. Oversee the exercise area and ensure the safe use of equipment.
  4. Provide skills development sessions on using low-cost resources for recreational purposes.
  5. Create a weekly schedule of activities and ensure timely execution.
  6. Establish partnerships with community recreational facilities and businesses to provide residents with free or discounted access.
  7. Monitor computer usage and ensure access to recreational software.
  8. Document all activities and incidents, and report any serious incidents or allegations of abuse.
  9. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies.
  10. Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  11. Attend scheduled supervision, training, and staff development meetings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant human services area, such as recreation therapy or creative arts therapy.
  • Two years of experience in recreation/therapeutic recreation programming or a closely related field.
  • Effective problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and present information effectively.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and identify solutions to problems.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge, and participate in in-service training and development activities.
