Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the City of Tampa Florida. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing mechanical maintenance and repair activities for our Waste to Energy facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment to identify and correct mechanical malfunctions.
  • Operate hand tools and portable power tools, including welding and steel fabrication equipment.
  • Install and maintain various types of threaded fasteners and retaining rings, piping, tubing, and hose-type fluid transfer systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair chain drive systems, belt drive systems, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, couplings, bearings, pumps, motors, conveyors, and valves.
  • Perform minor tasks requiring rigging and machinist skills, including the use of shop lathes and milling machines.
  • Follow standard safety procedures and report safety and environmental hazards to the shift supervisor.
  • Operate industrial forklifts, manlifts, and other mobile equipment as needed.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school with two (2) years' experience in the maintenance and repair of industrial mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to meet all criteria for level I on the maintenance skills matrix within 6 months.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's license.
Working Conditions

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response, or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
