About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Materials & Aging Management team at Westinghouse Nuclear. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing inspection acceptance criteria for nuclear power plant components using finite element analyses (FEA).

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize FEA to develop inspection acceptance criteria for nuclear power plant components, including acceptable bolting patterns and flaw acceptance criteria for components impacted by material degradation mechanisms.
  • Perform calculations for and apply the ASME Code to the design and analysis of reactor vessel internals components using FEA and other engineering tools.
  • Qualify replacement reactor internals components for plant operation, including structural evaluations, thermal and mechanical stress, and fatigue.
  • Evaluate degradation observed in plant components to permit continued operation.
  • Support resolution of plant outage issues through the application of qualitative and quantitative engineering evaluations.
  • Support larger generic projects that are developing industry guidance and requirements for safe long-term operation of nuclear power plant reactor vessel internals components.
  • Develop technical leadership skills through mentoring of early-career engineers and leading small project teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of applicable experience.
  • Proficient use of ANSYS (Workbench, APDL) required.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of nuclear power plant components, specifically reactor vessel internals, preferred.
  • Experience with or knowledge of materials science beneficial, but not required.
