Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at Della Infotech. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms, providing exceptional patient care, and working collaboratively with our surgical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the circulating nurse in assessing patients' physical, psychological, social, spiritual, environmental, and educational needs, and help develop and implement a plan of care based on sound nursing principles and patient/family needs.
  • Provide care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room's performance standards, physician preference cards, and AORN Standards of Care and Practice.
  • Assist in setting up rooms, securing safe transport of patients, confirming correctness of the surgical site, preparing the pre-operative site, instrumenting the case, managing the sterile field and specimens, and turning the room around under the supervision of the circulating nurse.
  • Serve as a steward for the hospital's human and material resources, meeting productivity expectations of the unit/department as defined by the unit manager, identifying accurate changes on surgeons' preference cards, utilizing and maintaining appropriate supplies during the case and in the department.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties, willing to share knowledge, complete routine assignments in a timely manner, take responsibility/accountability for assigned tasks/duties, use available time productively.
  • Communicate consistently with colleagues in a professional and respectful manner, accept assignments willingly, adapt positively to the ever-changing medical care environment by supporting technology and process changes.
  • Provide competent patient care to all patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
  • Maintain required department confidentiality and abide by HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a surgical technologist program is required; or graduate of an LPN program with surgical experience.
  • Certification as a surgical technologist preferred. LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
  • Previous surgical technologist experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates self-confidence, initiative, and high level of concentration.
  • Demonstrates communication skills and promotes good working relationships with all members of the surgical team.
  • Recognizes personal learning needs and follows through to gain new competencies.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to meet departmental on-call requirements.
Additional Requirements
  • Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
  • Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines.
  • Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
  • Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
  • Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
  • Completes MANDT Training within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
  • Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
