POSITION SUMMARY:

The Technical Publication Specialist II is responsible for the creation and modification of medium to complex technical documentation for various branches of the United States Armed Forces. This role involves collaboration with customer or Government representatives as needed throughout the project lifecycle. The Specialist operates with a degree of autonomy, managing project planning and execution while working closely with team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides support for front desk operations, including directing calls and visitors to the appropriate personnel.
  • Prepares a variety of publication documents in alignment with customer, Government, or company standards.
  • Generates final documentation for both customer and internal evaluations, ensuring accuracy and correcting any identified errors prior to submission.
  • Maintains effective file management practices, including saving, naming, backing up, deleting, and archiving documents in accordance with established protocols.
  • Creates medium to complex electronic documents and templates tailored to customer and internal specifications using advanced publishing software.
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of projects, identifying opportunities for cost-saving measures while meeting customer requirements.
  • Estimates the effort required for production tasks to meet or exceed expected productivity rates on assigned projects.
  • Contributes to team efforts, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks in a cost-effective manner.
  • May assist in training new team members to enhance team performance.
  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel, working with management to ensure project deadlines are achieved.
  • Participates in project kickoff meetings and provides regular status updates to management.
  • Delivers documentation or services according to a pre-established timeline.
  • Communicates project progress with internal staff and customers as necessary.
  • Identifies and reports on issues, technological advancements, and hardware/software requirements.
  • Understands and communicates details regarding files/documents, graphic file types, and workload management.
  • Records and reports individual performance metrics.

  • Completes any other job-related tasks as assigned, with reasonable accommodation.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position is situated in a general office environment, requiring the use of standard office equipment such as personal computers, telephones, and photocopiers. The role necessitates the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Occasional overtime or additional hours may be required to meet project deadlines, including potential weekend or holiday work as needed. Travel by motor vehicle or airplane may be necessary to fulfill job responsibilities, estimated to be less than 10 percent of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Education Equivalency (GED) is required.
  • Preferred: Certificate from a vocational or technical school.
  • Preferred: Associate degree in Desktop Publishing, Computer Science, English, or Art/Design.

Experience:

  • Required: Two to three (2-3) years of experience or specialized training in desktop publishing, XML/SGML coding, proofreading, or art/design.

Technical Skills:

  • Required: Basic proficiency with Microsoft programs, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Required: Basic proficiency with Adobe Acrobat (PDF).
  • Preferred: Intermediate proficiency with publishing software.
  • Required: Previous experience with XML or SGML coding to create and apply tagging principles.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Preferred: Valid driver's license in state of residency with an acceptable driving record.
