Coordinator for Veteran Housing Services

The Housing Coordinator for the Transitional Residence for Veterans plays a crucial role in facilitating residents' journeys towards securing permanent housing. This position involves continuous evaluation of residents' housing requirements and preferences, alongside the creation of housing opportunities within the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To excel in this role, the individual must effectively execute each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to fulfill the essential functions unless it imposes undue hardship on the organization.
- Establish and nurture partnerships with housing providers and the Veterans Administration.
- Create and maintain comprehensive community resource guides tailored for each borough.
- Identify and secure appropriate permanent housing options within the community.
- Act as a liaison between the residence and landlords concerning move-in timelines, lease agreements, and utility matters.
- Collaborate with case management personnel to accurately assess the specific housing needs and preferences of residents, ensuring these are addressed during the housing search.
- Serve as a point of contact for the Veteran's Administration to locate housing for eligible residents.
- Engage in regular evaluations of existing partnerships to ensure their effectiveness and work towards enhancing the program's connections as part of Continuous Quality Improvement.
- Document all efforts made to secure housing for residents.
- Assist in onboarding new staff members as needed.
- Maintain precise and current individual paper and electronic case records as instructed by the Program Director.
- Adhere to attendance and timekeeping protocols, ensuring reliable and consistent presence at work.
- Participate in scheduled clinical meetings, staff discussions, and supervision, along with ongoing training and development opportunities.
- Review the staff communications log and contribute entries regarding critical information as directed by program management.
- Obtain and sustain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- May be required to handle on-call responsibilities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies, fostering an ethical workplace culture.
- Promptly report any serious incidents, allegations of abuse, or sensitive situations, completing incident reports in line with agency policy.
- Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor’s degree accompanied by two years of experience in case management or housing services, or relevant human services experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree that included a one-year practicum working directly with individuals with mental disabilities (e.g., BSW) along with one year of related experience. An Associate’s degree in a health or human services field combined with three years of direct care experience, or a high school diploma/GED with four years of experience providing direct services to individuals with mental disabilities or homeless individuals is also acceptable. A NYS Driver's license is advantageous. Preference will be given to veterans for positions within the Veteran's Shelter.
