Roving Preschool Educator

8 hours per day with 1 hour lunch, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Job DescriptionThe Preschool Teacher will provide instruction to preschool-age students, support the preschool sites, and substitute when necessary.
Essential ElementsPrimary Function: Provides an educational program for Preschool students.
Responsible To: The site administrator and/or District office preschool administrator.
Supervises: Plans and coordinates work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art, music, English Language Development, and physical education.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law, state contract, and administrative regulations and procedures of school district.
- Provide diverse learning experiences to motivate pupils.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents on the individual pupil's progress.
- Develop and maintain lesson plans following guidelines of State preschool contract and deliver appropriate instruction.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with Support Personnel in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitudinal and learning problems.
- Classroom environment to meet requirements of State contract.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service provided by the district and/or a self-selected professional growth program.
- Perform basic attendance accounting.
- Conduct family workshop meetings monthly and parent orientations as indicated.
- Use technology to input data and plan for instruction.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administer group standardized tests and other district/state tests in accordance with district testing program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have obtained Child Development Teacher Permit/Primary Teaching Credential.
- Have an AA degree.
- Have current CPR and First aid.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Intermediate Spanish level of fluency or higher.
- BA degree in Early Childhood Education or related subject.
Experience: Evidence of working in an early childhood education program.
Ability:
- Effectively deliver a Board approved instructional program that is aligned with district and state curricular standards.
- Monitor and record student progress in a manner that is understandable to students and parents.
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including students, parents and co-workers.
- Represent and support the district or school in conversations with the public.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Promote development of positive character traits.
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, classroom technology (including computers).
- Ability to see for purposes of reading printed materials.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone.
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person, on the telephone, and addressing groups.
- Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach overhead.
- Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school or home site-to-site).
- Physical strength sufficient to lift 25 pounds.
- Physical stamina sufficient to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.
