Job Summary

The Life Skills Instructor is a vital member of our team at Alternative Services-Connecticut Inc, responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role requires a strong commitment to promoting independence, safety, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement personalized plans to enhance the daily living skills of individuals, focusing on areas such as personal management, household management, and nutritional awareness.
  2. Monitor and document consumer behavior, implementing management programs as needed to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  3. Provide regular reports on program progress, including statistical data and programmatic insights.
  4. Maintain a clean and safe living environment, conducting regular sanitation and safety inspections and making minor repairs as necessary.
  5. Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, management, and external agencies.
  6. Ensure knowledge of and adherence to Agency policies, procedures, and licensing regulations, including medication administration, key control, and emergency procedures.
  7. Complete incident reports and notify supervisors of any problems or unusual occurrences.
  8. Implement and adhere to Behavior Support Plans, documenting progress and outcomes.
  9. Assist with daily tasks, such as shopping, meal preparation, and clean-up, as needed.
  10. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities.
Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required; two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnosis preferred.
  2. Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to lift up to 75 pounds, transfer, and physically intervene as needed.
Accountability

The Life Skills Instructor reports directly to the Individualized Supports Manager or designated supervisor.
