Our Spring Valley encompasses 135 acres of prairies, woodlands, and wetlands, featuring scenic walking trails, a nature center, a historical farm from the 1880s, and a nature playground.

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Supervisor of Environmental Education, the Sustainability Education Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing educational programs focused on environmental awareness for various age groups and interests within the community. This role emphasizes maintaining a safe and effective educational environment, ensuring clear communication with participants and guardians before, during, and after programs. Responsibilities include setting up and dismantling program spaces, ensuring cleanliness for subsequent activities, and assisting in the upkeep and enhancement of interactive exhibits in the Nature Center Museum. The Coordinator will also organize and maintain educational materials and equipment, provide assistance to visitors and staff regarding natural history inquiries, and participate in all relevant training sessions. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will hold a B.S. or equivalent in Environmental or Outdoor Education, Biology, Natural Sciences, or a related discipline. A minimum of two years of experience in outdoor program development and delivery is required. Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent organizational abilities, are essential. The candidate must demonstrate adaptability in program delivery to accommodate group needs and changing weather conditions. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions is necessary. Candidates should be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and database management, is expected. A flexible work schedule is preferred. Familiarity with Illinois ecosystems, flora, and fauna is advantageous. Certification through the National Association for Interpretation's CIG (Certified Interpretive Guide) program is a plus. CPR/AED certification is mandatory; training will be provided if not already certified.

SCHEDULING & COMPENSATION: This is a part-time, year-round position with a pay rate of $17.00/hour. The typical schedule includes three days per week from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional evening and weekend commitments during the spring, fall, and winter seasons. During the summer, the schedule may extend to five to six days per week.
