Purchasing Supervisor Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Purchasing Supervisor to join our team at Weasler Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of purchasing professionals to develop and maintain a supplier base that supports company objectives regarding quality, cost, supplier OTD, and PO alignment to production requirements for materials, equipment, and supplies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and coordinate the purchasing team to ensure efficient and effective procurement processes.
  • Plan and organize activities related to the procurement function, establishing KPI metrics and measuring team performance.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices in the company ERP system.
  • Manage and coordinate responses to price increases from suppliers with sourcing.
  • Develop instructions regarding purchasing systems, procedures, and workflows to balance workload amongst team members.
  • Manage and update ERP purchasing parameters.
  • Coordinate all activities related to procurement from intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Lead supplier change project teams to ensure smooth transitions in coordination with finance and sourcing.
  • Share information and status with other departments regarding material availability.
  • Assess vendor capabilities and evaluate/improve vendor performance.
  • Track market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability, sharing insights with colleagues and initiating discussions with next-level leadership when conditions require.
  • Negotiate, supervise, or participate in the negotiation of complex requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Coach, train, interview, and select team members.
  • Review invoices for accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Resolve disposition of rejected or non-conforming material.
  • Measure and track MRP exception message execution performance for the team, expediting purchased materials as needed.
  • Manage purchases to support inventory plans.
Requirements:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of the business and supply chain.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with participating in mature S&OP processes.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel.
  • Proficient with production planning systems.
Education & Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in a relevant area of study beneficial.
  • 5 years of work experience in a related role.
  • Certificates: APICS or similar beneficial.
Technology/Equipment:
  • Relevant experience using ERP systems for essential duties and responsibilities.
