Carpenter 1/C

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter 1/C to join our team at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. as a Marine Vessel Carpenter. This is a critical role that requires a high level of expertise in carpentry, particularly in the context of marine vessel construction.
Key Responsibilities- Construct and repair various wood structures and furnishings in marine vessels, including floors, doors, and partitions.
- Use woodworking machines, hand tools, and power tools to fabricate and assemble wood components.
- Measure and cut materials to determine conformance to specifications.
- Install permanent and temporary ladders and handrails, as well as sound dampening and ballasting materials.
- Prepare and place blocking material for vessel blocking.
- Rig and flag cranes using hand signals to move material safely to desired locations.
- Work with minimal supervision and perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalence, plus three to five years of carpentry experience desired.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in marine vessel construction.
- Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to read a tape measure.
The employee is regularly required to communicate, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
