Job Summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Instrument Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Central Sterilization department, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper processing and sterilization of surgical instruments, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and collaborating with our perioperative services team to ensure seamless patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Monitor and ensure daily operational compliance with standards governing sterile processing activities from agencies such as Joint Commission, OSHA, AORN, federal, state, and local ordinances.
  2. Assist in the incorporation of standards into a comprehensive CSP developmental quality assurance program.
  3. Provide direct clinical supervision of activities performed by Sterile Processing Staff.
  4. Communicate with the Perioperative Management Team, Service Line Coordinators, physicians, and staff members to ensure that needs identified are budgeted, purchased, accounted for within inventory, and placed into proper sets.
  5. Ensure that the policies and procedures as they relate to decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization of instruments are maintained appropriately and are consistent with the standard of care.
Requirements
  1. Certification as Surgical Technologist or Central Sterile Processing Tech.
  2. Minimum of five years' experience in OR or CSP service delivery, and three years supervisory experience within the CSP environment. Associates degree in surgical technology or equivalent preferred.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires weekend, shift work, holiday, and overtime as required. The work is performed in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled environment. There is the potential for exposure to infectious diseases from exposure to contaminated instrumentation and equipment. Work in this environment requires the observance and practice of UMMS policies for universal precautions and OSHA/MOSHA standards.
