The Ambulatory Infusion Pharmacy Manager is tasked with ensuring adherence to all relevant federal and state pharmacy regulations while executing pharmacy initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy. This position oversees the daily operations of the pharmacy within the cancer center.
Key Responsibilities
A typical day for the Ambulatory Infusion Pharmacy Manager at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Leading and managing a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff dedicated to patient care and related services.
- Collaborating with nursing, medical, and administrative leaders to enhance patient care through infusion pharmacy services, ensuring proper drug storage, preparation, and patient monitoring.
- Ensuring departmental compliance with standards set by medical staff and regulatory agencies at all levels.
- Dispensing and overseeing medication therapy in line with applicable regulations, including reviewing medication orders, monitoring for potential issues, and preparing IV admixtures.
- Following strict protocols for aseptic techniques in the clean room environment to maintain compliance with industry standards.
- Tracking and analyzing outcomes, managing medication-related incidents, and leading quality improvement initiatives.
- Overseeing the procurement and security of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
- Building strong relationships with healthcare professionals and addressing any issues between the pharmacy and other departments.
- Ensuring readiness for regulatory inspections and implementing necessary changes to meet evolving standards.
- Participating in system-wide initiatives focused on quality, medication safety, and formulary management.
- Managing payroll functions within the pharmacy department and ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Assisting in achieving financial objectives and contributing to policy development and revisions.
- Performing additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Upholding organizational competencies and standards of conduct.
Qualifications
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a sterile processing pharmacy.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Comprehensive understanding of New Jersey drug laws.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Master's degree or Pharm.D.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Active NJ Registered Pharmacist License in good standing.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
- Board certification in Oncology or Sterile Compounding.
