Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Associate Counsel to join our Claims and Litigation Division in the Office of Legal Affairs. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and handling complex medical malpractice claims filed against NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest municipal healthcare system in the country.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of complex medical malpractice claims from inception through final resolution, including trials.
  • Develop defense strategies and work with medical experts to assess potential exposure of claims.
  • Prepare treating physicians and other medical care providers for depositions and/or trial.
  • Draft substantive motions and present cases to facilities and senior executives of the Hospital System.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management on issues that have the potential for litigation.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree or equivalent, and LLB or JD from an accredited School of Law, and admission to New York State Bar.
  • Three (3) years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, labor law, and employee relations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification(S)/NYS License(S): NYS Attorney Registration.
  • Educational Level: Juris Doctor.
  • Knowledgeable in: Municipal Law.
  • Three to five medical malpractice defense.
  • Strong motion writing and advocacy skills.
