Educational Support Coordinator

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) stands as one of the largest educational systems in the United States, catering to over 320,000 learners across more than 600 institutions and employing nearly 40,000 individuals, predominantly educators. CPS is committed to ensuring that every student, in every school and neighborhood, has access to a premier educational experience that equips them for success in higher education, careers, and community engagement. To achieve this mission, we uphold three core commitments to our students, their families, and the broader Chicago community: academic advancement, financial sustainability, and integrity. Our six foundational values are woven into these commitments – student-focused, holistic development, equity, academic excellence, community collaboration, and ongoing learning.
The district's CPS schools are structured into 18 networks, which offer administrative assistance, strategic guidance, and leadership development tailored to the specific needs of the schools within each network. This network support framework is designed to address the distinct requirements of CPS elementary and high schools and their leaders, with Network 13 concentrating on elementary institutions in the southern regions of Chicago.
Position Overview:
Under the guidance of the Chief and Deputy Chief of Schools (Network 13), the Instructional Support Leader (ISL) plays a crucial role in fostering instructional development and enhancing school-level performance to boost academic success in elementary schools. All ISLs are expected to be instructional authorities with demonstrated expertise in at least one core subject area (e.g., Literacy, Mathematics, Science) and/or with priority student demographics (e.g., Diverse Learners and English Language Learners). However, the specific content expertise and requirements for the ISL will vary according to the needs of the schools within the network.
The ideal area of content expertise for this role is either Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) or Literacy.
The Instructional Support Leader will be responsible for the following:
·Enhancing the daily instructional capabilities of classroom educators and school leaders across a portfolio of schools to implement core district and network priorities, which encompass: Common Core State Standards, a multi-tiered support system, and a comprehensive teaching framework.
·Delivering tailored instructional support by collaborating directly with administrators, teacher leaders, and educators in the classroom, as appropriate, to exemplify effective, research-driven instructional methodologies, working alongside teacher teams to promote data-informed instructional planning, and partnering with school-based leadership teams to actualize Common Core State Standards implementation at the classroom level.
·Consulting and collaborating with Principals, Assistant Principals, school-based Instructional Leadership Teams, and fellow Network personnel as necessary to devise data-informed strategies that facilitate the development and execution of Continuous Improvement Work Plans (CIWP). These strategies encompass: curriculum design, professional development initiatives, direct support for classroom educators, monitoring student outcome progress, and crafting student intervention plans.
·Designing and leading professional development sessions centered around Common Core implementation for network teacher leaders and network administrators.
·Coordinating and disseminating Network initiatives and/or other District initiatives aimed at enhancing instructional quality and academic performance.
To excel in this role and fulfill the outlined responsibilities, the Instructional Support Leader must possess the following qualifications:
Required Education:
·A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is mandatory.
·A Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership is highly preferred.
Required Certifications:
·A valid standard teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education with appropriate grade level and content area endorsements is required.
·A General Administrative (Type 75) Certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (or an equivalent certificate from outside Illinois) is preferred.
Required Experience:
·A minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience.
·At least three (3) years of experience working with adult learners, including coaching, and designing and facilitating professional development for classroom educators and school leaders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
·Exceptional communication skills, encompassing speaking, presenting, listening, and writing.
·High levels of instructional expertise, integrity, honesty, credibility, and the courage to make difficult yet necessary decisions.
·Strong leadership and team-building capabilities, including the ability to cultivate high-performing teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success.
·Adept at building collaborative relationships with various stakeholder groups, including external partners, to ensure the entire system operates effectively to support schools and principals.
·Proficient in utilizing multiple data sources to establish measurable goals and strategically plan to achieve them.
·Skilled in problem definition, data analysis, and action plan development as part of a continuous improvement cycle.
·Excellent communication skills: writing, speaking, and listening.
·Experience with curriculum mapping, unit planning, and formative progress monitoring.
·Familiarity with research-based school improvement models and strategies.
Employment Conditions:
As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
· Establish and Maintain Chicago Residency: Employees must reside within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions; however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
· Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19: Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters. Unvaccinated staff with an approved exemption must submit to weekly testing.
