Chicago, Illinois, United States Chicago Public Schools Full time

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) stands as one of the largest educational districts in the United States, catering to over 320,000 students across more than 600 institutions and employing nearly 40,000 staff members, predominantly educators. CPS is committed to ambitious objectives that guarantee every student, in every institution and neighborhood, receives a world-class educational experience, equipping them for success in higher education, careers, and civic engagement. To achieve this mission, we uphold three core commitments to our students, their families, and the broader Chicago community: academic advancement, financial integrity, and ethical conduct. Six fundamental values underpin these commitments – student-centered focus, holistic development, equity, academic excellence, community collaboration, and ongoing learning.

CPS operates through 18 networks, each providing administrative assistance, strategic guidance, and leadership development tailored to the unique requirements of both elementary and high schools within the district. This network support framework is designed to address the specific needs of CPS schools and their leaders. Network 13 is dedicated to supporting elementary schools located in the southern regions of Chicago.

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Chief and Deputy Chief of Schools (Network 13), the Educational Support Coordinator (ESC) plays a pivotal role in fostering instructional development and enhancing school-level performance to boost academic success in elementary schools. All ESCs are expected to be instructional authorities with demonstrated expertise in at least one core subject area (e.g., Literacy, Mathematics, Science) and/or with priority student demographics (e.g., Diverse Learners and English Language Learners). However, the specific areas of expertise and requirements for the ESC will vary according to the needs of the schools within the network.

The preferred area of specialization for this role is either Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) or Literacy.

Key Responsibilities of the Educational Support Coordinator:

·Enhance the daily instructional capabilities of classroom educators and school leaders across a designated group of schools to implement core district and network priorities, which encompass: Common Core State Standards, a multi-tiered support system, and a comprehensive teaching framework.

·Deliver tailored instructional assistance by collaborating directly with administrators, teacher leaders, and educators in the classroom, as appropriate, to exemplify effective, research-based instructional methodologies. Work in partnership with teacher teams to drive data-informed instructional planning and collaborate with school leadership teams to actualize Common Core implementation at the classroom level.

·Engage in consultation and collaboration with Principals, Assistant Principals, school-based Instructional Leadership Teams, and fellow Network personnel as necessary to devise data-informed strategies that support the development and execution of Continuous Improvement Work Plans (CIWP). These strategies may include: curriculum design, professional development initiatives, direct support for classroom educators, monitoring student outcomes, and formulating student intervention plans.

·Design and facilitate professional development sessions focused on Common Core implementation for network teacher leaders and administrators.

·Organize and disseminate information regarding Network initiatives and/or other District initiatives aimed at enhancing instructional quality and academic performance.

Qualifications for Success:

Educational Background:

·A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.

·A Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership is highly preferred.

Required Certifications:

·A valid standard teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education with appropriate endorsements for grade level and content area is required.

·A General Administrative (Type 75) Certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (or an equivalent certificate from outside Illinois) is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

·A minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience is required.

·At least three (3) years of experience working with adult learners, including coaching and designing as well as facilitating professional development for educators and school leaders.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·Exceptional communication skills, encompassing speaking, presenting, listening, and writing.

·High levels of instructional expertise, integrity, honesty, credibility, and the courage to make challenging yet necessary decisions.

·Strong leadership and team-building capabilities, including the ability to cultivate high-performing teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success.

·Capacity to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholder groups, including external partners, to ensure the entire system operates effectively in supporting schools and principals.

·Ability to utilize multiple data sources to establish measurable objectives and strategically plan to achieve these goals.

·Competence in defining problems, analyzing data, and developing action plans as part of a continuous improvement process.

·Outstanding communication skills: writing, speaking, and listening.

·Experience with curriculum mapping, unit planning, and formative assessment monitoring.

·Familiarity with research-based school improvement models and strategies.

Employment Conditions:

As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

· Establish and Maintain Chicago Residency: Employees must reside within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary or part-time positions; however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.

· Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19: Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters. Unvaccinated staff with an approved exemption must submit to weekly testing.
