Job Summary

The Patient Transporter plays a vital role in delivering patients, equipment, medication, lab specimens, and paperwork within the University Medical Center, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and other facilities. This position requires a high level of customer service, as the Transporter responds to requests from various departments throughout the complex and clinics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver patients, equipment, medication, lab specimens, and paperwork to designated locations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Respond to requests from various departments via the TeleTrackingTM System and/or according to departmental policy.
  • Interact with medical staff, ancillary areas, and patients to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Perform a high volume of jobs per hour, as measured by dispatched to completed time (DTC), to ensure timely transportation of patients.
  • Participate in monthly TeleTrackingTM audits to ensure compliance with NSS policies regarding system usage.
  • Meet hand washing compliance goals, as measured by the hand washing question of the Steps to Success program.
  • Respond to patient discharges in a timely manner, with a goal of less than 15 minutes.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (some college preferred)
  • Healthcare experience is desired
  • Customer Relations skills are a must
  • CPR Certification is required within the first 90-days of employment
Skills and Abilities

The Patient Transporter should possess good written and verbal communication skills, be knowledgeable of the physical layout of the UMC/TTUHSC Complex, and follow established procedures and practices related to the position.

Physical Capabilities

The Patient Transporter must be emotionally and physically fit, with the ability to walk, push, pull, lift, and move patients, specimens, medications, supplies, records, paperwork, and equipment.

Environmental/Working Conditions

The Patient Transporter is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
