Summary
THIS IS A CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT AND EXAMINATION PROCESS.

As a Bilingual Educational Support Specialist, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at assisting students in acquiring English as a second language within an educational environment. Your role will include administering language assessment tests to evaluate student proficiency.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
You will receive general oversight from certified educational staff.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support the English language development of students whose primary language is not English; assist individuals and small groups in enhancing their listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills in English; guide students through various educational activities.
- Help prepare and reinforce bilingual instructional materials and engage in other related activities.
- Administer assessment and placement tests; oversee both oral and written evaluations focusing on reading, writing, and language structure; score assessments and compile diagnostic reports for students.
- Assist educators in tracking student progress; identify students ready for reclassification; conduct retests as needed; recommend reclassification based on established criteria.
- Manage record-keeping tasks; maintain attendance logs; complete necessary forms and applications; assist in organizing testing and other documentation; update student information as required.
- Assist in the preparation of teaching resources and learning activities as directed; gather, organize, and distribute educational materials and supplies; procure instructional aids when necessary.
- Communicate with non-English speaking parents, as directed, to provide updates on their child's academic and behavioral performance; interpret during parent-teacher meetings.
- Provide oral interpretations of assignments and instructional materials to non-English speaking students.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging learning environment, including preparing visual displays and classroom decorations.
- Participate in faculty meetings, staff development sessions, and parent conferences.
- Operate educational technology, including audio-visual equipment, computers, and copying machines, to support instructional activities.
- Assist non-English speaking students in understanding English language and American cultural contexts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of experience as an instructional assistant.
Training:
-Completion of 24 units of college-level coursework focused on bilingual education and instructional support.
-Applicants must meet academic proficiency requirements in ONE of the following ways:
- Completed two years or more of college units (48+ units); OR
- Received an AA degree or higher; OR
- Successfully complete an academic assessment demonstrating knowledge in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Special Requirement:
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is desired.

ExaminationThe examination components consist of a qualifying written multiple-choice and oral exam. Work Environment
This job is primarily performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment, with some outdoor activities; exposure to various classroom conditions and student interactions.
Physical Demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead and horizontally; dexterity of hand and fingers to manipulate instructional materials, writing instruments, computer keyboard/mouse; hearing and speaking sufficiently for the exchange of information.
