We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veteran Justice Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing support and services to veterans and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Identify the behavioral health, rehabilitative, and other services needs of service members, veterans, and their dependents/family members.
- Develop a coordinated services plan and connect individuals with appropriate service providers.
- Offer care coordination support/assistance and monitor for the successful resolution of identified needs.
- Ensure adequate and timely needs assessment, treatment, and support are available to justice-involved veterans in multiple phases of the criminal justice system.
- Provide outreach and supportive services to justice-involved veterans in diversion courts, jails, correctional facilities, and on probation and parole supervision.
- Knowledge and familiarity with the military services, culture, and/or military experience.
- Knowledge and experience related to human services and/or behavioral healthcare field.
- Knowledge and experience in behavioral health and supportive services for veterans, service members, dependents, and caregivers.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and diversion strategies as it pertains to justice-involved individuals.
- Knowledge of re-entry barriers and initiatives for justice-involved individuals.
- Knowledge of risks and needs of justice-involved veterans.
- Knowledge of human rights, ethical, and legal concerns related to providing care coordination services.
- Knowledge of suicide interventions and mandatory reporting requirements.
- Ability to communicate (written and oral) clearly and effectively.
- Ability to engage service members, veterans, and their families, develop professional relationships with a wide variety of agencies, and advocate for those individuals receiving services.
- Previous documented work experience in human services and/or behavioral healthcare field.
- Prior experience and/or education in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education, or an approved field.
- Qualified Mental Health Professional Adult or Eligible QMHP-A or E.
- Criminal justice-related work experience.
- Military/veteran/family-related life/work experience.
- Military experience.
- A competitive salary range of $50,000-$55,000.
