Surgical Pathology Specialist

The Surgical Pathology Specialist will be responsible for the gross examination and description of surgical specimens submitted to the Pathology Department at Norton Healthcare. The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge and great proficiency in the skills of performing gross description and cutting techniques of surgical specimens.
The ideal candidate will be capable of performing moderate and highly complex procedures in Surgical Pathology. They should present a pleasing and helpful manner to clients, physicians, and all hospital personnel.
The Surgical Pathology Specialist will be responsible for communicating with physicians, pathologists, and clinicians in a knowledgeable and professional manner. They will also support and contribute to the laboratory objectives by assisting their fellow employees.
The incumbent must comply with relevant local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations. They should present for work in a timely manner, groomed professionally, and perform their job function in accordance with all Norton Healthcare standards, policies, and procedures.
The Surgical Pathology Specialist will work under the technical supervision of the pathologist(s) in the area of surgical pathology. They will be responsible for dissection, tissue selection, gross description, gross photography, and quality assurance relative to surgical pathology specimens.
Norton Healthcare is a major provider of high-quality anatomic and clinical pathology services throughout the Louisville area. The company has a team of six pathologist assistants and 27 pathologists distributed at all locations.
The Surgical Pathology Specialist will be located at the main campus and will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Dissection
- Tissue selection
- Gross description
- Gross photography
- Quality assurance
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor Degree and one year of experience in health sciences. They must also have a PATHA or MD credential. A Master Degree or Doctorate Degree is desired.
