Job Title: Senior Relay Technician

ABM Industries is seeking a highly skilled Senior Relay Technician to join our Electrical Power Services team in Raleigh, NC.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a certified technician with a minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical testing to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards, NFPA70E Electrical Safety standards, and the ability to troubleshoot electrical performance deficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, and troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Supervise trainees, assistants, and technicians in the completion of electrical testing duties
  • Observe testing, assign work on projects to capable technicians, and ensure testing of similar items is consistent across test technicians
  • Track project scope completion and communicate with ABM and customer management
  • Maintain, test, repair, rebuild, and replace low, medium, and high-voltage transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches, test and inspect low, medium, and high-voltage cable installations, and perform relay calibration and power metering
  • Conduct low and medium-voltage motor control center and contractor testing, start-up, troubleshoot, and repair generator controls and transfer schemes, and test and commission protection and control systems on high-voltage substations
  • Sample and interpret insulated fluids, complete job hazard analyses, and review and submit timecards, expense, and project reports
  • Document test results and complete field reports, rotate emergency on-call duty, and maintain strict compliance with regulatory laws
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical testing
  • Current NETA Level III or IV, or NICET certification, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in and leading a small team, managing medium to large-sized projects, and familiar with NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards and NFPA70E Electrical Safety standards
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical performance deficiencies, travel regionally and nationally up to 25%, and skilled in testing digital relays (SEL 700G or comparable)
  • Knowledgeable in lockout/tag out and hazardous energy control procedures, clean driving record, and familiarization with Megger and Omicron test equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an electrical testing environment, familiar with NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards
