Overview:
The Special Education Program Coordinator will demonstrate expertise in collaborating with educators to design instructional units that are cohesive and aligned with academic standards.
This role involves close collaboration with the educational team to oversee students in accordance with their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
By executing these plans, the staff will assist students in reaching their maximum potential while progressively enhancing their socially acceptable behaviors.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
Development and Compliance
Act as the local educational authority representative at all mandated meetings under IDEA and serve as the 504 Coordinator for all meetings under Section 504.
Fulfill all roles and responsibilities outlined in the procedural manual for the local educational authority representative.
Ensure compliance with all IDEA and Section 504 timelines.
Guarantee that all family notifications and consents for evaluations and placements are processed and provided in the native language where feasible and stored in the student’s temporary files.
Distribute draft IEP materials to families at least five school days prior to meetings, including any applicable forms and evaluations.
Arrange for certified interpreters at all IEP and 504 meetings for families with limited English proficiency.
Coordinate all referrals for Full and Individual Evaluations (FIE) to ensure all necessary components are addressed and completed within the designated timeframe.
Ensure IEP teams utilize both qualitative and quantitative data when making service decisions during IEP development.
Finalize each student’s IEP or 504 Plan during meetings and provide families with copies.
Support the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process.
Conduct observations and offer coaching for Special Education Teachers and Paraprofessionals.
Partnerships:
Assist in programming all students with disabilities in accordance with their IEPs.
Collaborate with the Instructional Leadership Team to schedule paraprofessionals and Special Education Teachers based on student needs.
Oversee the execution of all IEPs and 504 Plans for students with disabilities within the institution.
Train and support staff regarding the implementation of IDEA and Section 504 requirements.
Ensure timely entry of all relevant student data into the system.
Arrange special education and related services for students in accordance with their IEPs and liaise with the appropriate authorities for necessary arrangements.
Consult with the Director of Student Services regarding students requiring specialized services or any issues arising during implementation.
Stakeholder Relations:
Participate in all professional development and meetings aimed at supporting the case manager/local educational authority representative.
Convene and lead IEP and 504 meetings, acting as the District Representative.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a Master’s degree in Educational Administration.
Licensure:
Professional Educator License (PEL) in relevant areas, including School Support Personnel endorsement with a supervisory endorsement.
Skills:
Expertise in special education curriculum and service delivery.
Knowledge of general education curriculum and the individual needs of students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
Strong understanding of federal and state laws regarding special education services.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
Demonstrated skills in customer service, consensus building, and problem-solving.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Demands:
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
