Job Summary
Manson Construction Co. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our team in marine equipment yard operations and office estimating/engineering. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to rotate between the engineering and estimating positions, working in the field or in the main office to gain a well-rounded knowledge of marine and heavy civil construction, and dredging.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the reporting of daily activities of a construction or yard operations crew
- Conduct cost and implementation comparisons of as-built construction activities to as-bid estimates
- Track quantities and develop project work element plans and hazard analysis
- Coordinate with project foremen and superintendents to write work procedures for activities
- Develop project work element plans and hazard analysis
- Use Computer Aided Drafting for analysis of equipment capabilities, depiction of work methods, access, and sequencing
- Assist in estimating assignments, including quantity takeoffs, reading job specific specifications and standard specifications, subcontractor and supplier coordination and quote comparisons, estimate cost analysis and detail entry, and project scheduling
Requirements
- Currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Construction Management, or another engineering-related course of study from a four-year nationally accredited college or university
- Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document collaboration (Adobe or Bluebeam)
- Basic knowledge or experience with AutoCAD (or similar) and scheduling software

Physical Demands
The employee is frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures.
