Roanoke County Schools is dedicated to fostering athletic excellence and student development. This role is integral to the wrestling program, reporting to the Athletic Director and Head Coach.
The Assistant Wrestling Coach is essential in managing various elements of the wrestling initiative, focusing on athlete growth, academic achievement, event operations, training sessions, and financial oversight.
- Collaborate with school leadership, the Head Coach, and the Athletic Director to strategize, organize, and implement activities for the wrestling program, supervising over 30 student-athletes.
Key Qualifications and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrated integrity and leadership capabilities are vital, with the capacity to establish a clear vision and mission for the program.
- Conduct safe and productive training sessions while imparting wrestling fundamentals.
- Ensure adherence to VHSL regulations, including Weight Control Management and TrackWrestling data management.
- Prioritize athlete safety during practices, competitions, and travel arrangements.
- Coordinate pre-season meetings for parents and post-season award ceremonies for the team.
- Oversee team equipment and plan for future needs.
- Work with the Athletic Director and Head Coach to create competition schedules and events.
- Manage the team budget, fundraising efforts, and maintain the Team Roster.
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding practice schedules and competitions.
- Establish clear conduct expectations and guidelines for athletes and their families.
- Inspire, mentor, and recruit student-athletes who meet academic and athletic criteria.
- Possess experience as a high school or collegiate wrestler or coach/referee.
- Exhibit high standards of conduct and expect the same from students.
- Support all athletic teams and align the wrestling program with the overall athletic department goals.
- Collaborate with local middle schools and community recreation programs to enhance recruitment and program growth.
