Job Summary

The YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge is seeking a Program Assistant to provide leadership and guidance to our Before School program. This role is responsible for ensuring the overall well-being and safety of our participants, while also planning and implementing engaging activities that promote youth development and academic enrichment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a group of middle school students and maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Plan and implement program activities that align with YMCA values and standards
  • Attend training and staff meetings to stay up-to-date on program standards and policies
  • Communicate effectively with parents, children, and other staff members
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older
  • Six months of programmatic experience with children, preferably in an after-school setting
  • Must complete 24 hours of training to meet licensing standards
  • Preferred CPR/First-Aid certification
  • Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
Work Environment

The Program Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with children and adults, and must be able to stand for periods up to 4 hours. The ability to lift up to 25 lbs and participate in large motor activities is also required.
