The Studio General Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Design Within Reach Dallas studio, ensuring a seamless customer experience and driving sales growth. This role requires a strong leader who can motivate and develop a high-performing team, while maintaining a deep understanding of the retail industry and design principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Management: Develop, lead, and motivate a team of sales professionals through consistent coaching, feedback, and training.
- Talent Acquisition and Management: Manage the full life cycle of talent acquisition and management for Account Executives and Studio Leads, including promoting open studio positions and managing candidate relationships.
- Sales and Service: Drive sales and service through team management, including goal setting, coaching, training, accountability, and recognition.
- Performance Management: Manage performance issues of sales team members, ensuring that all employees meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Studio Operations: Ensure the studio represents the best in design by utilizing visual directives, presentation, and general housekeeping standards.
- Trade and Home Visits: Lead the team on weekly trade and home visits, providing exceptional customer service and driving sales growth.
- Design Presentations and Product Trainings: Lead the team in creating floorplans, design presentations, and product trainings, ensuring that all team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide exceptional customer service.
- Expense Control and Profit Maximization: Ensure all studio procedures are followed to maximize profit and manage expense control goals, including scheduling and managing studio shipments, controllable expenses, and supplies.
- Employee Relations: Resolve employee relations issues of sales team members in partnership with HR, ensuring that all employees feel valued and supported.
- Positive Work Environment: Maintain a positive and productive work environment, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Business Insights and Best Practices: Build positive working relationships with studio team, area manager, and regional VP to share business insights and best practices, driving business growth and development.
Requirements:
- Background in Interior Design or Architecture: A degree in interior design or architecture is preferred, with a strong understanding of design principles and industry trends.
- Retail Management Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years of retail management experience, with a proven track record of successful leadership and a deep understanding of the retail industry.
- Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on listening and people management.
- Design Skills and Passion: Demonstrated design skills and a passion for the design profession, with a strong understanding of design principles and industry trends.
- Financial Literacy and Business Acumen: Financial literacy, business acumen, and the ability to manage budgetary responsibilities, with a strong understanding of financial metrics and performance indicators.
- Technical Skills: Experience with a POS system and proficiency with MS Office software, Gmail, web navigation, and 3-D rendering programs.
- Physical Demands: Able to routinely move objects weighing more than 20 pounds and to understand safety requirements.
