Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our Main Operating Room team. This facility is recognized as a Level II Trauma Center, providing essential care for critically injured patients in the region.

Role Summary:


The Certified Surgical Technologist will be responsible for preparing surgical rooms, supplies, and equipment for procedures, working closely with physicians and surgical staff under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.


Key responsibilities include adhering to safety protocols, identifying and rectifying any breaches in aseptic technique, conducting equipment checks for functionality, and maintaining updated surgeon preference cards. The CST will also assist in gowning and gloving themselves and team members.


We are looking for candidates who possess the expertise to care for patients across all age groups while effectively communicating with surgical teams and supervisory personnel.


Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to anticipate and prioritize the needs of surgeons, as well as manage instrument, sponge, and sharp counts independently during all procedures.

This is a full-time position with day shift hours (options of 4-10s: 7am-5:30pm or 3-12s: 7am-7:30pm).

Main OR CSTs are expected to be on-call for two to four 12-hour weekend shifts every six weeks and must respond within 30 minutes if called in. Weekday on-call (Monday-Friday) is not required.

Minimum Qualifications:


Must hold certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the NBSTSA or as a Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) by the NCCT, or be licensed as an LPN in lieu of certifications.


Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers from AHA, ARC, or the Military Training Network is required upon hire.


Responsibilities:


Demonstrate knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable).

Ensure compliance with hospital safety policies and procedures.

Exhibit knowledge of cautery safety and recognize breaks in aseptic technique, taking immediate corrective action.

Conduct equipment checks to ensure proper functioning and update surgeon preference cards.

Assist in gowning and gloving other members of the sterile team and self.

Independently manage instrument, sponge, and sharp counts for all procedures.

Collaborate with the RN Circulator to gather necessary resources.

Maintain responsibility for technical equipment and supplies within the specialty area.

Proactively troubleshoot equipment issues to ensure resolution.

Support the RN Circulator in setting up the surgical room and obtaining necessary equipment.
