Diagnostic Imaging Technologist

As a Computed Tomography Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and services using advanced imaging modalities. Under indirect supervision, you will perform a variety of Computed Tomography procedures on patients of all age categories, evaluating images for technical quality and exercising professional judgment in the performance of duties.

- Observe all organizational, regional, medical service area, and Diagnostic Imaging department policies and procedures.
- Maintain standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.
- Utilize effective communication skills in all interactions with patients and staff.
- Meet productivity norms achieved by peers within the department.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
- Explain procedures to patients, verify patient history, and confirm the appropriateness of ordered exams/procedures.
- Select appropriate software for exams, utilizing a variety of software programs based on imaging principles, area of interest, and patient conditions.
- Position and immobilize patients to obtain diagnostic images of areas of interest, administering contrast media orally or assisting radiologists in intravenous administration.
- Recognize adverse reactions or changes in patient condition and react appropriately, observing all standards for radiation safety/protection to minimize dose.
- Utilize scanning techniques, select best planes, acquisition methods, and parameters to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology in studies.
- Modify protocols as indicated by presence of pathology or trauma.
- Perform special procedures, such as 3-D studies, biopsies, drainage, and aspiration, post-myelography, CT arthrography, CT angiography, cardiac gating, and interventional CT.
- Evaluate images on video display screens for diagnostic quality and presence of artifacts, taking corrective action as indicated to ensure image quality.
- Photograph/film images/scans utilizing appropriate window/level settings and formats, archiving images and data.
- One-year experience as a CT technologist within the past 2 years or 2 years experience as a staff technologist with successful completion of the department CT training program.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
- Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California) OR Certified Radiologic Technologist - Diagnostic Radiologic Technology Certificate (California)
- Basic Life Support within 4 months of hire
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Computed Tomography from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- N/A
- Two years clinical experience as a Computed Tomography Technologist, preferably in an acute care medical center.
- Experience with GE CT scanners.
- Additional training in the use and practices of Computed Tomography.
- Certificate of advanced qualification: ARRT-CT.
- Experience with 3D post-processing.
- Experience with PACS.
