Role Summary

We are seeking a seasoned R&D Chef to spearhead our innovation initiatives amidst a growing array of sales and development projects. The ideal candidate will possess a business-oriented mindset and oversee a small team, facilitating all facets of sales, development, quality assurance, and the production rollout process for new customer offerings.

The successful applicant will have 5-8+ years of culinary expertise in either a restaurant or corporate food service setting, with a readiness to manage a team. This individual must adeptly translate culinary experience into the manufacturing domain. We are open to training and developing promising talent, as well as welcoming seasoned professionals.

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative, and customer-centric individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality products and exceptional service to both internal teams and external clients. The ideal candidate will thrive in a small company environment where responsibilities are diverse and opportunities to influence outcomes are abundant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Innovation: Lead and support sales and innovation efforts, including creating samples for both bench-top and production floor; devise strategies for assessing ingredient technologies and developing novel products.
  • Recipe Development: Design and innovate scalable, cost-effective recipes that align with market trends and meet customer and company specifications.
  • Improvement: Enhance the nutritional value, cost-efficiency, and sensory characteristics of existing recipes; research and propose sustainable, high-quality ingredient sourcing while considering supply chain efficiency.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of recipes, tests, and procedures, including comprehensive documentation of test kitchen sessions and recipe development in the company's Flavor Studio system.
  • Collaboration: Assist the sales team with product development inquiries, customer presentations, and product information requests; prepare and deliver technical presentations for customer engagements; cultivate and sustain relationships with suppliers.
  • Research: Remain informed about product and ingredient trends, standards, attributes, and safety protocols.
  • Inspire & Manage: Lead and supervise a small, enthusiastic team; execute supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws; manage daily operations of the test kitchen.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of culinary experience in a restaurant or food service organization.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a corporate food service organization.
  • Background in manufacturing or food processing, particularly with proteins.
  • Knowledge of food safety principles, GMPs, and HACCP.
  • Formal Culinary Arts education is advantageous.
  • Certifications such as Certified Food Scientist (CFS), Research Chef (CRC), or Culinary Scientist (CCS) are a plus.
  • Experience or education in Food and/or Animal Science is beneficial.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is a plus.
