Position Overview

The Security Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and secure atmosphere for all individuals within the facility. Responsibilities include conducting thorough patrols of the premises, identifying and reporting any irregularities, and delivering general security services throughout the establishment. This position also involves assisting patients, visitors, and staff as necessary.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college education preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in a security-related role, ideally within a healthcare setting.
  • IAHSS Basic Certification or a 20-hour (or more) Security Training Certificate is preferred.
  • Ability to remain composed, take charge, provide direction, make sound independent judgments, and resolve conflicts during security incidents and emergencies until additional assistance arrives.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills.
  • A valid Illinois Driver's License is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exemplifies the WSMC Customer Service Values, which are essential for delivering quality service to patients and clients.
  • Conducts foot patrols throughout the facility, inspecting hallways, stairways, parking areas, and other public spaces for suspicious activities, safety hazards, criminal behavior, service requests, and cleanliness.
  • Ensures adherence to assigned posts and responsibilities.
  • Provides appropriate restraint and protection for patients as directed by medical personnel.
  • Reports significant security incidents to the supervising Security Officer.
  • Offers escort services to employees, patients, and visitors as authorized.
  • Manages parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations.
  • Handles confidential reports, information, cash, and other valuables with care.
  • Secures and unlocks offices and facilities as needed.
  • Receives, stores, and returns lost and found items.
  • Enforces identification and package pass policies.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of relevant city, state, and federal laws.
  • Assists in investigations as requested by the Supervising Security Officer or Director, maintaining records and documentation related to security activities.
  • Stays mentally alert while responding to security incidents.
  • Checks incoming visitors and staff after hours.
  • Represents the Hospital in court as required.
  • Performs dispatcher duties or other tasks as assigned.
