Surgical Oncology Physician Assistant

As a Surgical Oncology Physician Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the management of patients within the Surgical Oncology department. The ideal candidate will possess experience across various settings, including Outpatient Clinics, Operating Rooms, and Inpatient Care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Management


Work collaboratively with physicians and the healthcare team to oversee the care of Surgical Oncology patients across multiple specialties such as Gastrointestinal, Melanoma, Sarcoma, Endocrine, Port Clinic, and Breast Cancer.

Demonstrate competencies that cater to diverse populations throughout the continuum of care. Operate within your professional scope, interpreting diagnostic tests and prescribing suitable treatments in conjunction with physicians. Engage with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for surgical oncology patients.

Outpatient Responsibilities
Manage new patient assessments, follow-up consultations, and post-operative care in partnership with the physician and clinic team.

Operating Room Duties
Assist in surgical procedures, conduct pre-operative evaluations, and assess patients' immediate post-operative conditions. Interpret relevant tests and recommend appropriate treatments.

Inpatient Care
Oversee patient management during hospital stays and post-surgery in collaboration with the physician and clinical team.

Medical Expertise
Exhibit comprehensive medical knowledge in the care of Surgical Oncology patients, demonstrating proficiency and skill in this specialized area.

Professional Conduct
Commit to fostering collaborative relationships with physicians and all healthcare team members. Adhere to professional regulatory and institutional guidelines for practice, documentation, and patient care.

Continuous Learning
Engage in ongoing professional development and apply learned knowledge effectively in your role.

System-Based Practice
Evaluate your impact on the healthcare system, analyzing your practice and implementing improvements as necessary.

Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education
Required:

Meet the educational requirements set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing or the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.


Preferred:
At least one year of experience in an Advanced Practice Provider role, with prior experience in an Oncology setting being advantageous.

Licensure / Certification
Required:

Possess written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing or the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Certification must align with the clinical practice area and patient demographics. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is also required.


Potential Requirements:
Eligibility for limited prescriptive authority as granted by the State of Texas.

Compliance with American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in specific departments.
