Patient Services Representative

UPMC Horizon Dermatology / Horizon Dermatology Greenville is seeking a full-time Patient Services Representative to join their team. This is a Monday through Friday daylight position with no evenings or weekends. The PSR will cover two offices for a very busy dermatology clinic.
Job Summary:A Patient Services Representative is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and families, promoting the usage of new and emerging technologies, educating patients on their financial obligations, and collecting payments when applicable. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and be proficient in using personal computer-based applications.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide clear and understandable instructions to patients, ensuring they understand their healthcare options and financial responsibilities.
- Assist with administrative duties, including scanning medical records and faxing documents.
- Guide patients through the use of self-arrival technology or check-in patients at the desk, depending on their preference.
- Schedule or connect patients to resources for ancillary services at checkout.
- Understand and apply the principles of service recovery to resolve issues that do not meet patient expectations.
- Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources as needed.
- Obtain signatures from patients or family members for consent to treatment and financial responsibility, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Verify insurance benefits with carriers via online systems or phone inquiries.
- Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients in registration when applicable.
- Collect copayments and other patient payments at the point of service.
- Provide a warm greeting to all patients and register them in the Biometrics program, explaining its benefits.
- Confirm and update patient registration information at checkout.
- Appropriately distribute and triage phone calls to other areas and clinical providers.
- Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, office equipment, and proficient typing skills preferred.
- Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service function preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems preferred.
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
- Act 33 with renewal.
- Act 34 with renewal.
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
