The ideal candidate will oversee our weekend broadcasts and lead our 30-minute sports segment on Sunday evenings. This role is perfect for an engaging storyteller eager to explore the vibrant sports culture of the Quad Cities. Our primary focus will be on local high schools, minor league teams, and all things related to the Hawkeyes. We are looking for original content; therefore, a traditional reel showcasing typical highlights will not suffice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate and deliver sports reports across all media platforms.
  • Ensure all sports content adheres to company standards for journalistic integrity and production excellence.
  • Compose and present sports stories clearly and concisely.
  • Assist in writing, editing, researching, and coordinating sports programming and additional content.
  • React promptly to breaking sports news and other urgent newsroom situations as necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with the sports team to create comprehensive sports coverage.
  • Engage in promotional activities, including public appearances.
  • Handle special projects and other assigned duties.
  • Capture video footage for sports reports.
  • Set up, compose, and execute video shots effectively.
  • Maintain video equipment in optimal condition.
  • Edit video clips for television broadcasts and digital platforms.
  • Create written content for the website and other digital channels.
  • Interact with viewers and users on social media platforms.
  • Manage special projects and other assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Thorough understanding of sports and related activities.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to improvise when necessary.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in news reporting, depending on market size.
  • Outstanding on-air presence.
  • Proficient with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
