POSITION SUMMARY:
Under close supervision, the Janitor is responsible for executing general custodial services in various customer locations or assigned areas. This includes cleaning and detailing spaces such as conference rooms, offices, cafeterias, courthouses, classrooms, government facilities, and common areas. The role requires knowledge of custodial practices, equipment, supplies, and procedures to ensure a clean and safe environment.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Utilizes appropriate equipment and supplies to perform cleaning services, adhering to safety procedures.
- Maintains cleanliness in facilities, restrooms, and common areas.
- Disposes of trash and replaces plastic trash bags as needed.
- Dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.
- Cleans tables and microwaves.
- Vacuums carpets, sweeps, mops, and deodorizes floors.
- Wipes down walls, arranges furniture, and cleans window blinds.
- Applies correct chemicals on surfaces and refills dispensers.
- Ensures quality of work and customer satisfaction, responding to requests or referring to a supervisor.
- Promptly addresses spills and maintains custodial equipment for safe operation.
- May perform floor waxing and buffing regularly.
- May operate equipment such as a cardboard bailer.
- May oversee inventory and supply areas.
- Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 0 to 1 year of experience in custodial services preferred.
- Ability to follow safety instructions on chemical labels and equipment usage.
- Willingness to learn specialized equipment used in custodial services.
- Effective communication skills to address customer inquiries.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships.
- Flexibility to work evenings and adapt to schedule changes.
- Ability to manage resources and adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Not Applicable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must be capable of performing the following physical tasks for extended periods:
- Mobility around the worksite.
- Standing and walking.
- Bending, kneeling, reaching, and stooping.
- Lifting boxes or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Pushing or pulling objects such as vacuums and carts.
- May need to push/pull equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Grasping both small and large objects.
- Climbing ladders or step stools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed in an office setting or at customer locations, which may include various environments. Employees may encounter exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise from maintenance equipment, and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures.
