Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Prisma Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care services using diagnostic medical sonography. Your expertise will help us deliver exceptional healthcare to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify patients using two demographic identifiers and review physician orders for the procedure to be performed.
  • Check for appropriate clinical information and expected dates, as well as procedural contraindications.
  • Perform all ultrasound procedures using independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings.
  • Analyze sonograms, synthesizing sonographic information and medical history, and communicate findings to the appropriate physician.
  • Ensure imaging quality meets quality control standards, including all protocol requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date on organizational, affiliate, and departmental changes/updates by checking email on each shift.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Explain procedures to patients and introduce yourself and identify the department.
  • Greet patients professionally and guide them to the appropriate areas.
  • Ensure patients are in the correct area for their procedure and inform them and their family members of any delays, including estimated wait times.
  • Maintain patient and family comfort as best as possible, including providing warm blankets and extra pillows.
  • Arrange for interdepartmental transportation services and use correct area IDs.
  • Transport patients as necessary, especially to and from the radiology observation area and/or the emergency department.
Requirements
  • Completion of a radiology program or sonography program from an accredited institution.
  • No previous experience required, but sonography clinical experience is preferred.
  • Credentialed Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with one or more of the following credentials: Abdomen, OBGYN, and Pediatric.
  • BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ARRT in Radiology.
  • PACS experience.
Work Environment

This is a night shift position at the Greer Medical Campus, located at 1004 Greer Memorial Hospital.
