Mail Processing Specialist II

The California State Controller's Office is seeking a highly skilled Mail Processing Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our Mail Operations department, you will be responsible for operating complex mailing equipment, processing large volumes of outgoing mail, and ensuring timely and accurate delivery to the United States Postal Service and other mail carriers.
Key Responsibilities- Mail Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of mailing equipment, including complex multi-function computerized inserting machines, to process mail efficiently and accurately.
- Mail Processing: Follow control sheet/spool memo specifications to ensure jobs are completed correctly and in accordance with job specifications. Log and track work as required using job cards and log books.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clear jams from mailing equipment, detect material handling errors, and perform maintenance and minor repairs to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Quality Control: Verify the beginning and ending warrant numbers against the control sheet/spool memo, and communicate with supervisors when discrepancies occur.
- Physical Demands: Lift and move up to 50 lb. boxes without assistance, and maneuver full mail cages, weighing approximately 1,000 lbs., through Mail Operations.
- Additional Responsibilities: Operate the presort machine (sorter) for ZIP Code sorting, remove sorted envelopes from bins, and place them in appropriate mail trays. Ensure trays have the correct mail tags and secure completed mail trays on strapping machines.
- General Knowledge: General knowledge of postal regulations related to postage, types of mail, and ZIP Code sorting techniques is required.
- Physical Abilities: Stand for extended periods of time, and demonstrate the ability to work as an effective team member with all members of the Disbursements team.
- Communication Skills: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
- Attendance and Dependability: Excellent attendance and dependability are essential for this role.
- Flexibility: Ability to be flexible in response to changing workload and mandatory overtime may be required.
