Job Summary:

The Pediatric LPN will perform and document assessments appropriate to licensure, ensuring health history and admission process is completed, and intervention or referrals are made. This role will identify discharge planning and education needs, provide patient care, and perform personal cares. The Pediatric LPN will communicate patient progress and adjust own workload.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the registered nurse or other licensed practitioner in identifying patient needs, priorities of care, and goals based on patient's age, ethnic origin, economic status, lifestyle, creed, or philosophical beliefs.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the plan of care by gathering, observing, recording, and communicating patient responses to nursing interventions.
  • Modify the plan of care in collaboration with licensed practitioner.
  • Demonstrate competency and ability to carry out department-specific functions in accordance with the department's standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department/organization.
  • Function as a member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the implementation of an integrated patient-centered care plan.
  • Assign or delegate the responsibility for performance of nursing interventions to other persons for which that person has the necessary skills and competence to accomplish safely.
  • Identify the early warning signs of a change in a patient's condition and report appropriately.
  • Implement nursing interventions and prescribed medical regimens in a timely and safe manner and document nursing care provided accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate and communicate relevant and timely patient information with patients/families and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Report the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly according to standard operating procedure.
  • Participate in the health education approved by a licensed practitioner.
  • Assist in the discharge planning, appropriate education, and counseling based on identified needs to optimize patient/family understanding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Certification Requirements:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) | North Dakota Board of Nursing (NDBON) or Compact State Agreement | Prior to Start Date | HR Primary Sources
  • License Practical Nurse (LPN) | Minnesota Board of Nursing | Within 12 Months of Start Date | HR Primary Sources
